UTMSI Guide for all things "Green"

Standard Recycling
  • UTMSI recycling is single stream.  Place items in your office bin or bins located in the hallways.
  • The recycling program includes paper, cardboard, magazines, aluminum, tin, steel,  and plastics #1-7.  Sorry, no plastic bags or glass. Glass recycling is collected in Corpus Christi once every 3 months. Save your clean glass at home until the scheduled pick up.
  • Please rinse food items to avoid bugs.

Other Recyclable Items
The UTMSI Green Team and the Custodial Department maintain a recycling center for other recyclable items.  It is located under the stairs in the administration building (near fiscal).  Please notify the UTMSI Green Team if this area needs attention.  Items include:
  • Alkaline batteries
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Toner and ink cartridges
  • Wine corks

Glass Recycling
UTMSI is now collecting glass in the maintenance area.  The UTMSI Green Team will transport it to Corpus Christi during their quarterly glass recycling events. Due to the high volume of glass to be transported, we currently are only able to accept glass from UTMSI faculty, staff, and students and their families.

Glass must be clean, sorted by color, not broken, and placed in a box that can be lifted easily by volunteers.

COMING SOON:
Glass recycling stations at UTMSI student housing!

Packing Materials Recycling
UTMSI is now collecting packing materials for REUSE.  These are not being recycled, but there for you to reuse!  Why buy more materials when we have so many here already?

Bins are located across from the Fiscal Offices.  Placed your items in the bins or take some to ship your next package.  THE UTMSI Green Team is working with the Port A Business Center and transporting some materials to their store so that they can reuse the materials also!
